The undefeated lightweight champion, Robert Trujillo, is locked in for his next title defense—and it’s a rematch fans have been waiting for. Trujillo will once again face Dakota McGregor, this time on a much bigger stage at Power Slap 14 in New Orleans on July 18th.
“I’m super excited—especially being in a new city,” Trujillo told Slap News. “Vegas is great, but I’m ready to bring fireworks to a new crowd.”
“He’s Not Gonna Grow a New Chin” – Trujillo Predicts Another Win
The first meeting between Trujillo and McGregor went deep into the championship rounds before Trujillo walked away with the win. This time? He doesn’t think it will take nearly as long.
“There’s nothing he could have done in a few months to change what happened. He’s not gonna grow a new arm. He’s not gonna grow a new chin,” Trujillo said. “I think I’ll put him out in round 3.”
He went on to say that while Dakota may swing hard, it doesn’t have the same effect as previous opponents.
“Jewel Scott hit me with what felt like a palm punch to the chin—that was the toughest I’ve been hit. Dakota hits hard, but it just felt like getting slapped with a belt.”
The Lightweight Division: “It’s Filled With Pussies”
When asked about the state of the division, Trujillo didn’t hold back.
“A lot of these guys are scared. Some have even turned down fights against me or Dakota,” he said bluntly. “This division’s filled with pussies. Hopefully, we start filling it with guys who are ready to go.”
Superfight With Anthony Blackburn? Trujillo Says Yes
Trujillo has his eyes on more than just defending his title—he wants a superfight.
“I walk around at 170 anyway. I’ve asked for that matchup [against Anthony Blackburn] before this Dakota fight. Once I handle business, I want that next.”
Whether it happens at 170, 165 catchweight, or a new format altogether, Trujillo is ready to test himself against another undefeated champion.
Other Big Fights at Power Slap 14
Trujillo also gave his thoughts on other matchups on the stacked Power Slap 14 card:
-
Verne Cathy vs. Austin Turpin:
“If Verne can eat the hits again, I think he gets it done. He hits like a truck—nobody at 205 hits like Verne.”
-
Wes Mena vs. Damien Dibbell:
“Dibbell’s a monster, but Wes is my boy. I’ll throw money on the underdog. If he wins, that’s a big payday.”
Power Slap’s Biggest Crowd Yet? Trujillo’s Ready
Power Slap 14 in New Orleans is expected to draw 4,500 fans—nearly double what we saw at the Fontainebleau in Vegas.
“The crowd is gonna be amazing. I thrive off that energy,” Trujillo said. “More people are starting to understand Power Slap, and they’re traveling to see it. This is going to be wild.”
Final Message to Dakota McGregor
“There’s nothing you could’ve done. It’s gonna end the same way. I’m gonna finish you—and you’re going on a two-fight losing streak. That’s not a good look, my man.”
What’s at Stake
Both Trujillo and Dibbell are 5–0 in Power Slap—the longest win streaks in the organization. If both remain undefeated after July 18th, they’ll cement themselves as the top two pound-for-pound fighters in Dana White’s Power Slap.
