Power Slap XI is set to deliver another electrifying event, and Sean Kilmartin is ready to make his mark. Returning to the table after a long-awaited opportunity, Sean will face Tyler Groh in Saudi Arabia on January 30th. With renewed focus and a refined training approach, Sean is ready to bring his best.
A Long Time Coming
Sean’s excitement to get back to Power Slap is palpable. After missing the Abu Dhabi card, he’s eager to finally compete.
“I’m just ready to go now,” Sean shared. “It’s been a long time brewing, but here we are.”
When he found out Tyler Groh was his opponent, Sean’s reaction was blunt:
“I didn’t even know who he was,” he admitted. “The opponent didn’t matter to me—it was about getting back up there and doing what I need to do.”
Sean did take time to review Tyler’s fight footage, and his confidence remains unshaken.
“I watched it a couple of times—nothing impressive. He’s got a button there to be pressed, and that’s exactly what I’m going to do.”
Focused Training and a Stronger Approach
Sean has been hard at work preparing for this moment, refining his training to ensure he’s at his physical peak.
“Last time, I ran the weight off. This time, I’ve been working with a nutritionist and trainer, and I’m a lot heavier, bigger, and stronger. Right now, I’m leaning up and preparing for the final water cut.”
At 6’1” and walking around at 216 pounds, Sean is accustomed to competing at middleweight and light heavyweight. Currently sitting at 181 pounds, he’s well within striking distance of his target weight.
“No stress this time around,” he said confidently.
Sean has also focused on improving his defense and durability.
“I’ve been working on my jaw strength, neck strength, core, and back. Even if Tyler gets the first slap, it doesn’t bother me. I know he can’t take one of mine.”
Mental Toughness and Staying Focused
Sean’s mental game is just as sharp as his physical one. Known for his calm demeanor on social media, he’s unfazed by the occasional chirps and digs.
“I’m not interested in the trash talk. I just want to get the job done and get myself back on the right track. The rest doesn’t bother me—I’ll give it back as good as I get it, but it’s not my focus.”
The Evolution of Power Slap
Sean has been impressed with how quickly the sport has progressed, both in terms of technique and new talent.
“It’s really cool to see how the sport is moving along. You can learn a lot just by watching other strikers and their styles. I’ve been mixing up my own approach, but I’ll leave that as a bit of a surprise for when I get up there.”
The Matchup
When asked how he sees the match playing out, Sean didn’t hesitate:
“Done in one. As soon as I connect, it’s over. I’ve been working hard on both my offense and defense. I’ve never been knocked out before, and that’s not going to change. Tyler’s not taking one of my slaps.”
Sean also had a direct message for his opponent:
“The Northman is going South. Get ready, boy.”
