The Women’s Division Takes Center Stage
The women’s division in Power Slap is about to get its biggest fight yet as Mikael Michelle Brown steps up to take on Paige VanZant at Power Slap XII on March 6th, live from Fontainebleau, Las Vegas.
For Brown, this is a massive opportunity—taking on one of the biggest names in combat sports in just her second Power Slap match. For VanZant, it’s about proving she belongs at the top of the division.
Brown knows the stakes of this fight:
“Paige is their golden girl right now,” Brown said. “Everybody wants to fight her. The fact that I’m getting this matchup in just my second fight? I’m ready to prove why I deserve it.”
From Debut Standout to Title Contender?
Brown impressed the Power Slap brass in her debut against Emily Whitmire, showing incredible durability by eating Whitmire’s strikes without flinching. That toughness put her on the fast track, and now she gets a shot at one of the most recognizable names in Power Slap.
Since her debut, Brown has been laser-focused on improvement, completely revamping her approach:
“Last time, I trained for Power Slap like an MMA fight, and I was doing things wrong. Now, I’ve adjusted everything—I’ve been working with Pono Pau, strengthening my shoulders, my neck, my strike. If you thought I took those slaps well last time, just wait for this one.”
She’s also been training at the brand-new UFC Apex facility, a state-of-the-art performance center in Las Vegas.
“They’ve got recovery chambers that look like spaceships. The technology is insane, and I live just ten minutes away, so I can train there constantly.”
Paige VanZant: Can the UFC Veteran Dominate in Power Slap?
Paige VanZant has made a name for herself across multiple combat sports. From the UFC to bare-knuckle boxing, and now Power Slap, VanZant is a proven fighter with a massive fan base.
But does that experience automatically translate to slap fighting success?
Brown isn’t convinced:
“Experience and a big name don’t mean you’re tougher than me. I don’t think there’s a single woman in this division that’s tougher than me.”
While Brown respects VanZant’s striking, she sees openings in her defense:
“I’ve studied how she slaps, how she takes slaps. I know what to expect. And I’ve been working on a strike specifically to deal with her.”
Brown also hinted at a secret weapon in her technique:
“People don’t realize you can’t slap every opponent the same way. I’ve adjusted my technique specifically for Paige. It’s going to be a surprise.”
The Future of the Women’s Division
With more eyes on Power Slap than ever, this matchup is a major turning point for the women’s division.
Brown believes that for the division to truly grow, it needs to be structured differently:
“I think there are too many weight classes right now. We need more fighters, and we need to condense things. Maybe combine 115 and 125, or 135 and 125, so we get deeper divisions.”
Despite the challenges, she’s ready to carry the women’s division forward:
“I want to be one of the faces of Power Slap. I’m built for this. I love the spotlight. And I know I can win.”
