Bringing Italian Firepower to Power Slap
The women’s division in Power Slap is heating up, and the next wave of international talent is about to make an impact. Micol Di Segni, a highly experienced combat sports athlete, is set to become the first Italian fighter in Power Slap history when she faces Chelsea Dodson at Power Slap XII on March 7th in Las Vegas.
For Di Segni, this is more than just a fight—it’s a chance to pioneer a new sport in her home country:
“I’m honored to be part of this. Power Slap is the fastest-growing sport right now, and it’s exciting to represent Italy. I hope to bring a lot of Italian fans to watch and enjoy Power Slap.”
Di Segni enters the slap-fighting world with a wealth of combat sports experience. A world champion in IMMAF, a veteran of Dana White’s Contender Series, and a former world champion in Spain, she’s fought in MMA, kickboxing, and even has her sights set on pro boxing.
Now, she’s ready to put that experience to the test in Power Slap.
From MMA to Power Slap – A Perfect Transition?
Di Segni has trained and competed all over the world. She spent time in Albuquerque, New Mexico, training at Jackson Wink MMA, and even crossed paths with Chelsea Dodson’s family years before this matchup.
“It’s crazy—I’ve trained with Chelsea’s husband, John Dodson, and her brother-in-law, Eric. I know they’re an incredible fighting family. Chelsea is tough, and I know she’s game, so this is a great challenge for me.”
But what made Di Segni decide to compete in Power Slap?
An injury last November forced her to rethink her approach to combat sports:
“I hurt my left arm, and the only thing I could use was my right hand. So I asked myself, ‘What’s the only combat sport where I can compete using just one hand?’ And that’s how I got into Power Slap!”
Her right overhand has always been her best weapon in MMA, so transitioning to Power Slap’s precision-based striking made perfect sense.
Chelsea Dodson: The Returning Power Slap Striker
Standing across from Di Segni will be Chelsea Dodson, a tough and determined Power Slap competitor looking for her first victory in the organization.
Dodson made her debut at Power Slap X, where she showed resilience and a willingness to go toe-to-toe with anyone. Now, she’s determined to make a statement in her second fight.
Di Segni knows Dodson won’t be an easy opponent:
“I’ve seen her compete before. She’s a strong opponent, and I know she’s going to bring it. But I’m ready.”
Power Slap Training vs. MMA – What’s Different?
Training for Power Slap is a completely different process than preparing for MMA or kickboxing.
“For MMA, you have to train multiple disciplines—grappling, striking, wrestling, everything. But in Power Slap, I only have to focus on power and precision.”
Di Segni completely restructured her training camp, working with her strength and conditioning coach to maximize her striking efficiency.
“I built a new training program from scratch. We studied the movement, the power mechanics, and fine-tuned my striking for Power Slap. I hope I did a good job!”
She also trains at the new UFC Apex Performance Center, one of the most advanced facilities in combat sports today.
“It’s incredible. The technology is next level. I even saw fighters using a recovery chamber that looked like a spaceship!”
