Juli Montaña is set to make his highly anticipated Power Slap debut at Power Slap 7 in Saudi Arabia — and he’s not coming alone. The rising athlete will share the card with his brother, Ro Montaña, creating a unique moment for the two siblings who have built their athletic bond through wrestling.
After several delays, Juli is finally getting his shot, and he couldn’t be more excited. “It feels great,” he said. “After like three delays, my contract is set in stone, my opponent is set in stone. It’s like you’ve been wanting to do something for so long, and now you finally get to do it.”
While most competitors make their debut closer to home in Las Vegas, Juli will be stepping into new territory as Power Slap expands to the Middle East. “It’s going to feel different because it’s not at home — it’s in Saudi Arabia,” he said. “I’m just excited to try something new.”
Brotherhood and competition
Having Ro by his side adds an extra layer of motivation for Juli. “We travel all the time together for wrestling,” he explained. “Being on the same card is going to feel like when we do tag team matches — he’ll tag me in, I’ll do my work, and then I’ll tag him back in. It’s going to be cool having him in my corner.”
Studying his opponent
Juli’s opponent, Just Garinsyn, didn’t impress him much during his research. “It was hard to find him at first,” he said. “But when I did, I saw his boxing record — it’s terrible. He’s been knocked out several times and even has four wins against the same guy.”
He laughed, adding, “He’s farming these wins. You can say what you want online, but when people start looking into it, the facts don’t lie.”
Preparation and growth
Montaña has been involved with Power Slap since the second training camp earlier this year, observing and learning from veterans — including advice from his brother. “Everything happens for a reason,” he said. “I’ve learned so much about footwork, shifting momentum, and timing. Even breathing is a factor — if you take in too much air and let it out wrong, you might get knocked out.”
He’s confident that the extra months of training have paid off. “Just learning from the guys who’ve been doing it for a while now, you pick up on the little things,” he added.
The Montaña brothers’ unique style
While both brothers share a wrestling background and similar physiques, Juli insists his Power Slap style will stand out. “My wind-up is way different from my brother’s,” he said. “I’ve got more reach and speed, and you’ll see that when I slap. The only thing I want to match him on is his accuracy — he’s never fouled once.”
Still, their personalities and chemistry remain inseparable. “We grew up playing mariachi, we’re both wild and funny,” Juli said with a grin. “People get us confused all the time.”
Eyes on victory
As his debut approaches, Juli’s game plan is simple: precision and confidence. “I just gotta hit clean,” he said. “I’ve got a strong chin, strong neck, strong traps. The speed and power are there — I just need to land that perfect shot.”
And he didn’t hold back with a message for his opponent. “Get ready, bro. Tell your family you love them,” Juli warned. “If it’s sanctioned like that, you’re going to get another loss, another knockout. I’ll even let you hit me first — just so I can knock you out right after.”
Power Slap 17 promises fireworks, and with both Montaña brothers on the card, the energy will be off the charts.
