Javi Martinez is one of the most confident and raw prospects heading into Power Slap 13 on June 27 at Fontainebleau Las Vegas. The 25-year-old Texan has been preparing non-stop since attending the first Power Slap training camp — and now he’s set to make his official debut on stage.
“They need to hurry up and put me on stage,” Martinez told Slap News. “They need to hurry up.”
Javi will face John Ruy, a pro wrestler making the transition to slap fighting. And Martinez is already making it clear: he sees this as a mismatch.
“They put a fake fighter in front of me. He shouldn’t have signed,” he said. “I live in the real world.”
Building His Own Slap Machine at Home
Martinez’s preparation is next-level — and self-motivated.
“I think I’m one of the only dudes that actually built a slap machine at home,” Javi explained. “Everyone got the pad from camp. I went a step further. I slap my own machines. I do wrist workouts, neck workouts. These dudes aren’t doing what I’m doing.”
“I can confidently say that. It’s not even fair, to be honest.”
Javi has turned his home into a personal training compound, complete with dogs, chickens, and a family-first mentality.
“It only gets better, I promise.”
No Nerves — Just Confidence
Martinez wasn’t invited to the second camp, but he says that didn’t shake him.
“I wasn’t nervous at all. I knew they were calling me.”
Now with the call official, he’s laser-focused on making a statement in his first match.
“I’m ready to hurry up and get this first one out of the way. I can talk all I want, but until y’all see me drop a dude, it means nothing.”
On Facing John Ruy
Martinez isn’t shy about his assessment of opponent John Ruy.
“I know he’s going to get slept on stage when I see him. That’s about it,” he said. “He can be a professional wrestler hiding behind his face. But don’t come into a sport where you’re really getting hit expecting to do something.”
Ruy, who is 12 years older and several inches shorter, is listed at 5’7″ compared to Martinez’s 6’0″.
“I adjusted the bob already,” Javi said with a grin. “The dude’s got big muscles, scary paint face — that’s cool. But this is the real world.”
Fighting for Family — and Because He Loves It
Martinez speaks with an old soul, shaped by life experience well beyond his 25 years.
“I got married when I was 18. I’ve got three kids. I’m done partying. I worry about my family, the house. And this dude’s in the way of a check to feed my kids. So I’m gonna have to get him out of the way.”
And of course — he just loves to hit people.
“I like hitting people. Now I get to do it legally — and get paid for it. I feel bad when they show me this dude. Y’all gonna legally let me hit him for free? That’s not fair.”
Hungry and Ready for June 27
Martinez is already on weight — coming in at 184 lbs — and says he’s in peak condition.
“I’m too hungry. These dudes are fish food, peons. I know I got what it takes, and they don’t.”
If John Ruy is watching?
“Sleep good. Eat your wheats. Eat your greens. Do what you gotta do to feel your most confident — and don’t give me an excuse.”
Power Slap 13 is shaping up to be a breakout event, and Javi Martinez is ready to prove that he belongs on the stage — and in the conversation of future contenders.
