A long-awaited victory for the Canadian heavyweight
Ryan Kenny walked into Power Slap 17 determined to erase the sting of his razor-close war with Johnny. This time, he left the stage with a smile, a knockout win, and the momentum he’s been chasing since his debut. Taking out Bryce Jones in round two, Kenny says the victory felt every bit as good as he imagined.
Comparing KOs with Johnny and shaking off the nerves
Kenny admitted he still gives Johnny the slight edge in terms of KO brutality, but he was proud of his own finish. His mindset going in was night-and-day compared to his first appearance.
During the Johnny matchup, nerves were high. At Power Slap 17, he says a wave of calm hit the moment he walked through the curtain. The lack of nerves allowed him to focus, perform, and trust his accuracy.
Bryce Jones didn’t hit like expected
Kenny expected Bryce Jones to bring power similar to Johnny’s — but the shots didn’t land the way he imagined.
“Maybe he didn’t connect right,” Kenny said, noting the strike didn’t wobble him the way he anticipated. Instead, it made for a much easier night and set him up perfectly for his second-round knockout.
The feeling of landing his first KO
He admits it might sound harsh, but watching Bryce fall after landing a clean, accurate shot was an incredible rush. After starting his career with a clubbing foul, Kenny wanted to prove his technique was sharp — and he did exactly that.
“It felt good to finally do what I knew I could,” he said.
A wrestling-style celebration and a promise kept
After the KO, Kenny dropped down for a professional wrestling–style 1-2-3 count, a nod to his roots. The celebration wasn’t spontaneous — it was promised.
Coach Manny told his team that if any of the wrestlers scored a KO, someone had to do the count. Kenny looked him in the eye earlier that day and said, “I’ll be the one.”
When the moment came, he delivered.
Entering the heavyweight shark tank
The heavyweight division is stacked with finishers, personalities, and potential matchups. With this win, Kenny believes he deserves a step up — not a debuting opponent.
He says his performance over Bryce Jones should move him higher than some who are already inside the top 10.
“Whoever Power Slap wants in front of me, anytime, anywhere.”
Possible matchups: Jordan Oasis, Tiger Singh, or even Austin Turpin
When pushed for names, Kenny was game for several options:
-
Jordan Oasis
-
Tiger Singh
-
Austin Turpin, even though he doubts Austin thinks he’s a “worthy” opponent yet
Kenny says he can match any of their energy levels — whether it’s Tiger’s swagger or Turpin’s chaos.
“I got a mustache, I’ll curl that,” he joked.
Can Austin Turpin hurt Ryan Kenny’s feelings?
When asked directly whether Austin Turpin could get under his skin with trash talk, Kenny didn’t hesitate.
“Words mean nothing to me. We talk shit as wrestlers. Say what you want — when it’s time to slap, that’s when business is done.”
Ready to fight again immediately
Kenny says if Power Slap called tomorrow, he’d fly out the same day. He felt so energized after Power Slap 17 that he believes he could have fought tournament style in the same night.
What’s next for the rising Canadian?
With a KO win behind him and his confidence peaking, Ryan Kenny has officially entered the heavyweight conversation. Whether it’s Oasis, Singh, or even Turpin, Kenny is ready — and he wants a top-10 matchup next.
