Javi “Texas Chin Checker” Martinez reflects on his Power Slap debut
After a chaotic and highly memorable Power Slap debut, Javi Martinez — better known as the Texas Chin Checker — returned to Slap News to clear the air, break down what really happened, and explain exactly why he deserves another fight. His matchup with Mecha Wolf ended in a disqualification, but Javi insists the performance didn’t reflect who he truly is as a competitor.
The steak, the bill mix-up, and the frustration that followed
Javi opened the interview by admitting things started strangely the moment he arrived in Vegas.
He said he was starving, ordered a steak through room service, and the charge ended up flagged on his account. Erica contacted him about the bill, and the confusion caused stress before fight night even began.
According to Javi, “It had something to do with that steak.”
Addressing the drinking rumors
Slap News asked the question circulating online — did Javi drink too much before the fight?
Javi didn’t hide from it. He admitted that after the disqualification he was frustrated, upset, and ended up drinking too early while reflecting on what happened.
Thankfully, he says the interviews he thought might leak never did.
Breaking down fight week and the performance
Despite the controversy, Javi says he was fully prepared and excited during fight week. The moment he stepped onto the stage and felt the lights and cameras, he went into pure power mode. He focused only on hitting as hard as possible — not on the technique or foot placement.
He admits that the low dip and explosive momentum that caused the foul came from adrenaline, not intention.
Refining his technique — and doubling down on his style
Javi says he’s been back in the gym, refining everything. But he’s not abandoning his signature motion.
“My foot’s just gonna stay planted. Everything else stays the same,” he said confidently.
He also pointed to influences like Blackburn — noting that even top strikers dip low to generate power.
He believes his style will inspire others and insists he’s one of the hardest hitters in the division.
Respect for Mecha Wolf and the post-fight conversations
Despite the heat going into their match, Javi says he’s spoken with Mecha Wolf several times since.
He didn’t want to like him, but ultimately respects him as a person — especially for his charity work and passion for dogs. He also said he believes Mecha Wolf won his most recent matchup despite the foul controversy.
Reaching out for a second chance
With Erica gone and Justin now leading matchmaking, Javi says he personally messaged Justin — but hasn’t received a response yet.
When asked why Justin should book him, Javi fired back confidently:
“Why not? I promise I’ll put on a show.”
He then pointed out that other athletes miss weight or act unprofessionally — but people still watch him, and he’ll gladly accept penalties if he steps out of line.
What he brings to Power Slap
Javi believes he represents a unique part of America and brings undeniable charisma. Between the beard, tattoos, and Southern energy, he stands out immediately.
He says even top champions approached him wanting to talk, including Isaiah and Blackburn.
That, he says, shows the impact he has on the roster already.
Dream opponent and realistic matchup
His dream opponent is champion Isaiah, but he admits skipping the rankings might be unrealistic.
When asked for a realistic option, the conversation narrowed down to Ryan “Joker Slap” Wallace — and Javi didn’t hesitate.
“I’ll smack the shit out of him,” he said, promising fireworks if the matchup happens.
A message to the matchmakers
Javi closed by saying he’s ready right now.
He’ll take the first hit as punishment if they want — just give him the chance to redeem himself and put on another must-see performance.
