Las Vegas, NV — What started as a viral barroom gimmick in Hawaii has now turned into a career-making opportunity. Tiare “HurricaneTee” Akiona is officially set to make her debut at Power Slap 15 on October 3rd, when she takes on Zoey Dubois in Las Vegas.

A Whirlwind Opportunity

Akiona’s Power Slap journey took shape almost overnight. Fresh off the Power Slap training camp, she received the call while flying back to Hawaii.
“Erica actually texted me mid-flight if I wanted to compete at Power Slap 15. At first, I thought it was too soon since I had no training, but after talking to some people, I realized it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up,” she explained.

Preparing the Right Way

Now officially under contract, Akiona has wasted no time getting ready.
“I’ve been working with Tactical Strength Hawaii on explosiveness and neck strength, really trying to bring that power in even while cutting weight,” she said.

Though new to combat sports, Akiona’s athletic background in basketball and track and field has given her the foundation she needs. With just seven pounds left to cut, she’s already ahead of schedule.

Respect for Zoey Dubois

Her opponent, Zoey Dubois, comes from a unique background as both a dancer and wrestler. Akiona respects the similarities in their paths.
“She has a strong chin. I think it’s cool that both of us are coming up without combat sports backgrounds — she’s a dancer, I’m a bartender. But I’m ready to test myself against her.”

Humble Yet Dangerous

Despite her viral reputation as the bartender who slapped patrons during the now-famous “Hurricane Shots,” Akiona insists she’s more low-key than her online persona.
“I’ve always been raised to be humble. I don’t go looking for the spotlight,” she said. Still, she admits, “We Polynesians are built different. Just look at Makini Manu — he’s a beast.”

Support and Family Pride

Akiona won’t be walking into Las Vegas alone.
“My parents are flying out, and I’ve been trying to get a few more tickets because a bunch of family and friends want to be there,” she shared. “That’s really all the support I need.”

What Fans Can Expect

Asked to sum up who she is, Akiona kept it real:
“I’m just a bartender who went viral for slap shots — people take a shot, I throw water in their face, and then slap them. Now I get to do it on the biggest stage.”

With the spotlight now firmly on her, Akiona promises fans she’s ready to bring the storm:
“Desiree, I’m gonna smack the hell out of you. That’s why they call me HurricaneTee.”
