Las Vegas, NV — After time away from the Power Slap stage, Stevie Ray Ellis is making his return on October 3rd at Power Slap 15. Stepping in on short notice, Ellis will collide with the ever-entertaining Austin Turpin in a matchup that promises chaos, energy, and fireworks.
A Surprise Opportunity
Ellis admits even he was surprised when the call came through, but he’s embracing the chance to step back into the spotlight.
“I’m very excited and very humble for the opportunity,” Ellis said. “America is the land of opportunity, and I just got one of the biggest ones in the slap sport.”
His coach added that the camp has been nothing short of intense: “We got the call Friday, and since then it’s been nonstop. When Stevie steps up, Austin’s going to be surprised by what we’ve put together.”
Short-Notice, Big Energy
Taking the fight on quick notice doesn’t faze Ellis. In fact, he sees it as an advantage.
“The secret is, I don’t have to cut weight,” Ellis joked. “That’s how I’m keeping the energy up. We’re eating right, training hard, and bringing all of me to that stage.”
Precision and Power
Ellis acknowledges that the sport has evolved since his last appearance, and he’s working to refine his striking.
“I’ve got to focus on my target. It’s about being precise and powerful,” he explained. “We’ve been drilling motor skills and muscle memory so there’s no wasted energy. When I hit Austin, he’s going to feel it.”
Feeding Off the Gym
Now 34, Ellis says training with hungry younger athletes has given him a fresh spark.
“It’s a whole new generation out there, but I’m feeding off their energy,” Ellis said. “It’s come full circle for me and my coach. We’ve been here before, and we’re ready for this moment.”
Respect for the Opponent
Despite Turpin’s trash talk and reputation, Ellis had a respectful message for his opponent.
“Austin, all respect — they gave me the shot, and I’m just as surprised as you are,” Ellis said. “But I won’t be surprised at the end of the fight.”
Ellis predicts chaos: “Round by round, it’s going to be madness. The mental house is going to be opened up, and fans get to watch the show.”
