Makini “Big Mac” Manu returns to Power Slap at 4-1, hungry to prove he’s the rightful king of the super heavyweight division — and Dwayne Crespo is next on the menu.

After defeating Stephen Rousey earlier this year, Big Mac is back with renewed focus and fire, ready to take on one of the sport’s most seasoned names: Dwayne Crespo. The two will square off at Power Slap 14 in New Orleans on July 18, in what many are calling a true clash of super heavyweight contenders.

A Long-Awaited Matchup

“I’m super excited. Honestly, besides Danny [Viernes], this is probably the most experienced fight I’ve had. I’ve said it before — I don’t think Crespo belongs in super heavyweight. But if he’s stepping up, I’m ready.”

Makini’s words toward Crespo haven’t gone unnoticed. With respect for Dwayne’s past, Manu still believes the weight class isn’t his natural home — but welcomes the challenge.

Title Shot or Top Contender?

Fresh off seeing Dane Viernes take the belt from Dumpling, Manu knows a dominant win here could push him into title contention. But he’s not counting on anything.

“If I beat Crespo, maybe I get someone else in the top five. I feel like they’ll run Dumpling and Hitman back. I’m just staying ready for when my shot comes.”

And should Crespo lose, Big Mac believes he still deserves a title shot — just one division down.

The Crespo Challenge

Crespo is known for going deep into fights, using tactical precision and rarely getting knocked out. But Makini is undeterred.

“I expect him to have a tough chin. I’m excited to face someone who’s used to getting slapped. I hope he doesn’t take them — I want a KO. But if it goes to decision, I win clean.”

Makini says this will be one of his toughest matchups — second only to Danny Van Heerden.

Keys to Victory

Makini knows exactly what he needs to do to walk away with the win.

“Stay focused. Keep my shots clean. Don’t flinch. I prefer to take three slaps max. I’ve been training since March. If I land right, it’s over.”

He’ll be using his right hand this time after recovering from an old injury in his left arm. But he’s not afraid to bring the left out if needed.

“If I need my left, I’ll use it. But I’m not gonna be like KO Chris and quit.”

New Level, New Confidence

After a year-long layoff, Makini returned strong against Rousey and says fans should expect an even better version this time.

“Rousey was the tip of the mountain. Since Danny, my slaps have gotten way more accurate and powerful. This is going to be the best Big Mac yet.”

Now 5 fights deep in his Power Slap career, Makini believes he should officially be considered a vet — and he’s stepping up against one of the sport’s original competitors to prove it.

Final Words for Dwayne Crespo

“Hey Dwayne, bring your best, man. I’m bringing mine. You beat the champ — let’s see if you can take my shots. I don’t club.”
