After more than a year away from competition, Russell Rivero is stepping back onto the Power Slap stage—this time with gold in his sights. On June 27, Rivero will challenge reigning light heavyweight champion Wolverine (Ron Bata) in what’s shaping up to be one of the most anticipated matchups of Power Slap 13.

And for Russell, this one’s different.

“Usually I just show up to knock someone out. But this time, I’m actually training for it,” Rivero told Slap News. “Ron’s been around a long time. I gotta make sure everything’s dialed in. This one means something.”

Respect for Wolverine, But No Holding Back

Unlike some of his previous fights, there’s no bad blood here. In fact, Russell and Wolverine go way back.

“Ron’s my boy. I’ve known him since the beginning. I thought he was going to be my coach on the first show,” Rivero said. “But this was bound to happen. He dropped down and took the belt from AJ. Now it’s my time.”

Even though the two have mutual respect, Russell made it clear: when it’s time to slap, it’s all business.

“We do what we gotta do. I’m there to put him to sleep.”

Fighting Evolved – But the Power Remains

Russell hasn’t competed since Power Slap 7, but he’s been paying attention—and he’s not a fan of how some recent bouts have been officiated.

“Some of the new guys been tucking their chins. Back in the day, we couldn’t get away with that. But I talked to the refs, the doctors, and it looks like they’re bringing it back to how it used to be.”

Known for his raw power and knockout ability, Rivero says fans can expect a slightly more calculated approach this time.

“I’m still swinging hard, but I’m focused on accuracy now—lining up shots, finding the range. I know how Ron slaps. I’m not worried about him. It’s about perfecting me.”

The Mindset: Knockout or Nothing

When asked what a perfect June 27 looks like, Russell didn’t hesitate.

“Taking that belt home. KO. Guaranteed. He’s either going to be asleep or on the ground trying to get up. It’s not going past three.”

He believes fans tuning in will get a very different show than what Wolverine usually brings.

“Just watch my highlights compared to his. I put people to sleep.”

Legacy and Return

After a long layoff, many wondered if Russell would ever return to Power Slap. But now, with a clear mission and a marquee opponent, the timing feels right.

“I never cared much for the belt before. The AJ fight was just about knocking him out. But this time, the belt’s the goal.”

With Power Slap evolving and the light heavyweight division heating up, Rivero’s return is more than just a comeback—it’s a statement.
