Abby Montes is no stranger to combat. With experience in MMA, Muay Thai, and Combat Jiu Jitsu, the Mexico-born striker is stepping into Dana White’s Power Slap with confidence, skill—and some seriously heavy hands.
As she prepares to make her debut, Abby joined Slap News for her first-ever Power Slap interview. Despite a few Wi-Fi hiccups, her passion and excitement were crystal clear.
From Lobo Gym to Power Slap
Originally from Mexico, Abby now splits her time between her home country and California. She trains out of Lobo Gym, one of Mexico’s most respected MMA schools—home to UFC stars like Alexa Grasso, Irene Aldana, and Diego Lopes.
“I train with Coach Francisco Grasso,” she says proudly. “He’s the coach of many UFC fighters. My boxing is clean. My technique is strong. I feel ready.”
A Combat Sports Veteran With a New Challenge
While Power Slap is new territory, Abby brings years of fight experience with her. The striking foundation she built in boxing and Muay Thai gives her an edge when it comes to delivering damage—and taking it.
“I’ve felt power punches to my face for years,” she laughs. “I know how to take a hit. I know how to deliver one too.”
Her MMA and striking background also mean she’s no stranger to discipline, technique, and the mental toughness needed to succeed in slap fighting.
Power Slap Training: Adjusting to the Format
Abby is currently deep in prep mode—sharpening her technique, focusing on core and shoulder strength, and studying Power Slap-specific rules.
“The movement is different,” she admits. “But I’m focused on learning what works best for my body. My shoulders, my hands, my stance—I’m refining everything.”
Despite the differences from MMA, Abby embraces the challenge.
“It’s not pressure. It’s fun. I enjoy learning. I enjoy the process.”
Proud to Represent Mexico
With fellow Mexican strikers like Dorian Perez and Azriel Rodriguez already making waves in Power Slap, Abby is proud to carry that same warrior spirit.
“Mexican fighters are tough. We come from strong gyms and strong families. We fight with heart.”
The Debut Is Coming
While her first match is still to be announced, Abby Montes is locked in on making a statement when her name gets called. Her message is simple:
“I’m not here to play. I’m here to slap.”
Slap News will be following Abby’s journey every step of the way. Keep an eye out for her official debut in an upcoming Power Slap event—you won’t want to miss it.
